Overview

You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in Kampala by our guide and begin a scenic drive toward the Rwenzori Mountains, famously known as the “Mountains of the Moon.”

The journey takes you west through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, passing towns like Mubende and Fort Portal, with a stopover for lunch before proceeding to the foothills of the Rwenzori.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kasese

Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Kampala, heading west towards Kasese town, the gateway to the Rwenzoris. The journey takes approximately 8 hours, featuring scenic views of the Ugandan countryside and a stop for lunch en route in Fort Portal.
Highlights of the Day include panoramic views of lush landscapes during the drive. Upon arrival in Kasese/Ibanda, you will check-in at your accommodation.

- Acclimatize gradually to avoid altitude sickness

Day 2: Briefing and Hike to Sine Camp or Kalalama Camp

After breakfast, you will be driven to the Rwenzori Mountaineering Services (RMS) headquarters for a briefing, registration, and to meet your guides and porters. You'll start the hike from Nyakalengija/Ibanda (1,450m), traversing local farmlands before entering the Afro-Montane forest zone. This steady climb takes 5-6 hours, highlighted by the beautiful Enock's Falls near the camp. You will check in at Sine Camp, located just below the bamboo zone, for dinner and overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Only drinking water is provided throughout the trip; any other drinks are NOT included in the package.

Day 3: Hike to Mutinda Camp

After breakfast, begin the trek through the steep and often muddy Bamboo-Mimulopsis Zone, which requires many high steps.
Highlights of the Day: The trail meanders along a ridge top, passing moss-covered waterfalls and streams within a deep valley filled with unique plants and flowers. In the afternoon, you have the option to hike up to the Mutinda Lookout (3,975m) for amazing views and acclimatization. Dinner and overnight at Mutinda Camp.

Day 4: Hike to Bugata Camp

After breakfast, continue your adventure by traversing boggy sections and tussock grass through the Mutinda valley, then climb a steep section up to the Namusangi Valley.
Highlights of the Day: The trail continues with many ups and downs to Bugata Camp, situated high above Bugata Lake with breathtaking views of Kopello Lake and Weismann's Peak. Dinner and overnight at Bugata Camp.

Day 5: Summit Weismann's Peak and Descend to Kiharo Camp

Wake up early for the highlight of the trip: the ascent to Weismann's Peak. After breakfast, you'll trek across the hillside to Lake Kopello before the final, steep ascent on solid rock, potentially requiring ropes or crampons. Enjoy panoramic views of the main peaks (Mt. Stanley, Speke, Baker) from the summit. Afterwards, descend directly to Kiharo Camp down the Nyamwamba Valley, an area rich in evergreen plants and streams.

Day 6: Final Descent and Transfer to Kasese

After breakfast, embark on the final descent. Highlights of the Day: The trail down the Nyamwamba Valley offers stunning views, passing by moss-covered rocks and cascading waterfalls. The hike from Kiharo to the park gate takes 5-8 hours. Lunch will be provided at the Riverside Rock Shelter en route. Upon reaching the base camp, you will debrief and meet your driver, who will transfer you back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 7: Journey Back to Kampala

After a final breakfast in Kasese, check out and embark on the return scenic drive to Kampala. Lunch is included as a stop along the way. In the afternoon/evening, you will arrive back at your accommodation in Kampala, concluding your 7-day adventure.
End of tour: You'll be dropped off at the location of pickup. Additional accommodation can be arranged at an extra cost.

  • Laundry services
  • Any drinks other than the provided mineral water
  • Specialized mountaineering equipment (e.g., crampons, ice axes, ropes - often hired separately or provided by specialist operators)
